Netflix's New Gaming Service Has Been Confirmed

What if I told you Netflix is expanding into the interactive field with certain forms of games? Now, what if I told you that it will come at no additional cost? This brings Netflix and chill to a whole new level.

In a shareholder letter on July 20, 2021, Netflix announced that they will officially be dipping their toes into the interactive market by bringing subscribers certain forms of games. This whole project started in 2018 with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which gave the user a choose your own adventure style of play giving you the ability to determine the overall outcome of the show. This had multiple different endings and became very meta and was received very well by the public.

In 2020, Netflix released two other experiments we'll call them, in the form of an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive episode and a Carmen Sandiego interactive experience. In the letter to shareholders, Netflix states "We’re also in the early stages of further expanding into games, building on our earlier efforts around interactivity (eg, Black Mirror Bandersnatch) and our Stranger Things games." They say that gaming is a very important aspect to them and something they would like to explore further and give as much attention as they do their Netflix originals.

Now, what would all of this cost you? What's the catch? Well, so far there is no catch. It will be added to your normal Netflix subscription. At the moment, they say that they will be focusing mainly on mobile-specific games, but that doesn't mean they won't expand into more console-based experiences. There is no official release date as of yet, but I will be keeping an eye out for any new information I can find!

Personally, I think this is a very good move for Netflix because it brings in a whole new interest to their already incredibly popular platform. We will see what exactly this brings in the months to come! What would you like to see out of this new service? Is this something that you are excited about? I would be curious to hear your opinions!
